The University of Auckland is the largest university in New Zealand. Established in 1883 the university is made up of eight faculties over six campuses. It has more than 40,000 students and 2000 staff, nearly 10,000 of whom graduate annually.
With 4,000 servers and more than 1,300 documented workloads, even getting started was daunting. Working with the University, Consegna set the challenge to migrate 30 initial workloads, to demonstrate the viability of a data centre exit strategy.
Consegna ran a Migration Acceleration Program, building a custom Landing Zone Setup. We helped the University develop a Cloud Centre of Excellence with a wide range of skill sets from business to technical, and then delivered the first wave of a Mass Migration, successfully migrating all 30 workloads to the cloud, delivering well understood integrations with on-premise operations services, templated runbooks to transform servers from on-premise to Cloud, a migration factory and a proven export process. Most importantly, we created buy-in, both from the Business and from the CCOE.
